Hi Ladies,
As part of my mission to be active and have fun free adventure I went for a bike ride Sunday. Biking is a great way to get your heart pumping, your mind quieted, and enjoy your surroundings. I have been riding for years. Mostly I ride as my main mode of transportation. No car here folks! I also ride to have as little impact on the environment and burn major calories to boot. Really it’s killing two birds with one stone, man that’s yucky term.
I live in San Francisco so riding can be fun, but also a challenge with all the hills and cars. Sunday I wanted to get out and be one with nature. To do this I set my sites on riding to the ocean. This is a great ride, and is close to 15 miles round trip. That may sound long, but only takes 45 minutes each way. Perfect!
First stop, grab some lunch for the beach. I opted for a Vietnamese Tofu Sandwich and Coconut water. My new favorite place for this delight is Bi-Rite. Great store, if you can brave the crowds. Sandwiches are totally solid.
Now to set off on the adventure part of this story…
If you live in San Francisco you have probably heard of The Wiggle. The Wiggle is a great bike route that winds through the Mission District, Lower Haight, and Nopa. This route is the path of least resistance, so no major hills or freeways. Total bonus!
Once you hit the Pan Handle it’s smooth sailing and your communing with nature can begin. The path is lined with trees, runners, bikers, and kiddies so keep your eyes peeled. The entire area has the sweet smell of eucalyptus trees… Magical.
Next stop? Beautiful Golden Gate Park. This is the very best part of riding to the beach. You get to ride all through one of the most beautiful parks in the world. You can stop at the museums, Conservatory of Flowers, the roller skating (not blading) park, and learn how to Lindy hop. Typical Sunday bike ride???
On this day I rode by the Bison field. The Bison have been in Golden Gate Park since the 1890’s. Don’t be scared, this is not a heard of wild buffalo. They are in a fenced paddock so it’s totally safe for us humans. Just recently they have added about 4-5 new babies. Can you believe it? Baby buffalo in the city by the bay. I wanted to take one home, but thought better of it.
From there it’s pretty much downhill to the Great Highway and the scenic sites of the beach. Once you hit the highway you can cross the street and hit the main entrance to Ocean Beach.
I wasn’t quite ready to hit the sandy dunes, the sun was beaming and the birds were chirping and I wanted to keep riding. Lucky for us there is a sweet lil’ bike path that runs horizontal to the the road.
I headed south until I found the most perfect spot to set up my personal beach scene.
Check out my sweet post ride oasis….
What a perfect day, a little nosh, a little sun, and lots calories burned. Who says you have to spend tons of money to get peace of mind and an endorphin rush… Not me!
After about an hour it was time to get back to reality. Catherine was calling and the needs of our upcoming line needed to be addressed. Back on the bike and back to work.
Thanks for going out on an adventure with me. Where is your favorite place to get that oh so magical feeling for free?
XXOO,
Anna B.
